Sean at Oz Comic Con media coverage

Adelaide now did a wonderful article on Sean.

"I get asked some bizarre questions by the fans," Astin said. "But in the convention environment, you really get an opportunity to reminisce and expand on your thoughts."
He said Twitter had given him the chance to share his thoughts on his roles and field thousands of questions about the The Lord of the Rings franchise.
"Twitter is an amazing thing," he said. "I think a lot more about all of the movies I've made from the 1980s and '90s than I have in the 20 years since, because people see these films and ask me about them  on Twitter.
"Aside from the hundreds of Lord of the Rings questions, I feel like even the movies from my past, like Toy Soldiers, Rudy and The Goonies, have become a part of my life again because of social media."
Sean guards his Tim Tams zealously!

Sean will autograph almost anything!

Inspiring Stories at LA Marathon

Hollywood actor and long distance runner Sean Astin, who is famous for his epic roles in “The Goonies” and “Lord of the Rings,” ran the LA Marathon in support of the Achilles Freedom Team (and other charities) and even wore a hat supporting his base organization #Run3rd.
“There is a sense of achievement and community as well as the sexiness when competing in the LA Marathon,” said Astin the day before the race. “Nobody was handing out water in Mordor.
Heading in to the race, Astin said he was wishing for “a little heat blast from around First street and Grand right near Disney Hall,” even though he admitted to enjoying running in the “cool weather.”
The 41-year-old Astin completed the LA Marathon with a time of 4:26:31 and was 593 in his age division successfully beating his 2010 time of 5:16:02.
Astin competed in two prior LA Marathons, and even limped out his last race “fighting with every heart, nerve, and sinew” to break four hours after injuring his calf muscle training in the week prior to the LA Marathon in 2010.

Sean on NCIS guest spot

Entertainment Weekly has an article about Sean's guest stint as Tyler Elliot on tonight's episode of NCIS.
“NCIS is legendary for having a very close-knit, family-style, hard-working, professional team,” the former Lord of the Rings star says. “So being able to step in and participate with them, it makes you feel a little less like a free agent for a minute. It makes you feel like you’re a part of something.”
...
Though he is set to return for at least one more episode this season, Astin says he’s also in the thick of pilot season, plotting his next move. Though he’s enjoyed the dramatic fare that’s come his way in the past few years (and he’ll always lobby for wielding a gun, when appropriate!), he’s actually hoping his next TV gig is a half-hour comedy. “I’m watching my kids growing up and our favorite times are when we’re all laughing together,” he says. “That would really be a dream. Comedy is hard but fun.”

Armor Games interviews Sean about run3rd and gaming

Armor Games interviewed Sean about his passions for gaming, running and his #Run3rd project.
It’s just a hash tag like the millions of others, but I am infusing it with sustained passion and intention. The longer it goes on, the more I reflect about why it is able to grow. I wonder how many of the people that make dedications have ever done that before. I like to think that in many cases my invitation unlocks a little something…causing the person to consider for a moment…it is that moment of reflecting on what is important enough to make a public statement about that is the beauty of #run3rd..sure the internet might feel like a safe place to throw out a thought, but the truth is that for most of the people who post a #run3rd dedication, they feel incredibly deeply about their loved ones or cause. The stream of these things moves people, in many cases to tears…

Sean joins cast of December Dilemma

Sean is joining the cast of the independent movie "December Dilemma" the story of two families, one Methodist, one Jewish, who struggle with the competing interests of tradition and family.

Sean plays Teddy Hammond, wayward son of Paul (Tony Dow, "Leave it to Beaver") and Gloria Hammond (Bevery Washburn, "Shane"), still living at home in the basement - single, jobless, and with no real future. (Talk about casting against type!) Billed as a family comedy, the movie also stars Richard Benjamin and will be filmed in the San Francisco Bay area.

You can read a great deal more about December Dilemma on the movie web site and Facebook page.

More on Sean and the Blue Angels

Here is more of the interview with Sean after his ride in the F/A-18 Hornet with Lt. Tedrow, audio only. Source.

Several of the screen caps are reproduced below:

Sean flying high: video & interview

The Blue Angels are in El Centro CA for the NAF El Centro Air Show on March 10, and Sean Astin got the opportunity to fly in Lt. Mark Tedrow's F/A-18 Hornet. They flew at near Mach 1 (~760 miles/hour) and experienced G forces up to 7.2 times the pull of gravity!

KYMA TV's Rachel Elzufon was there when Sean landed, and wrote this interview.
Lieutenant Tedrow flew Astin all over the Desert Southwest, showing him all kind of stunts, twists and turns.
"We were high altitude for the first half," Astin said. "Then we talked politics for the second half."
Astin says this experience makes him even more proud to be an American.
"This is America. I don't know what other fighting forces are like in the world. But the fact that in ours you can go and serve our country in war time … and then come back and show your skills to citizens.
Astin says he was amazed by the beauty of the Desert Southwest, both on the ground and in the air.
Astin was actually invited to fly with the Blue Angels on his twitter page.
Astin tells News 11 he was asking followers to suggest causes for him to run for during an upcoming marathon. One of the responses was from a Lieutenant [Mike Smith] offering Astin the chance of a lifetime to fly with the Blue Angels.

Interviews with Sean's Funny or Die costars

In early December, Sean filmed a comedy short for Funnyordie.com. Two of his costars, Arlan Godthaab and Shelly Martinez, each talked with me via telephone about their experiences working with Sean.

Arlan came to acting about four years ago after a successful 25-year career as a film editor.

What can you tell me about the film?

"It has a lot of sight gag elements in it. It plays off of the typical male enjoyment of frontal anatomy and the extremes of male fantasies in a very dramatic, high special effects context. I've already seen some of the special effects, and they are top theatrical quality in terms of how they look and sound and feel."

Sean portrays plastic surgeon Takin Mastuhmik (say it a few times, you'll get it!) in the Funny or Die short "Boobathon."
