Summer appearances
On June 26, Sean introduced a free screening of "Rudy" at the LA Film Festival in support of Farmer's Field, a new football stadium they want to build in downtown LA to attract an NFL team.
The UCLA Department of English welcomed distinguished alumnus Sean Astin as the Keynote Speaker at the Department of English Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, June 11, 2011. Over the past 25 years, Sean Astin has built a dynamic career, having performed in numerous films including The Goonies, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Rudy. Astin also enjoyed working on a succession of popular television programs including 24, Law & Order, My Name Is Earl, and Monk. Beyond the success he has enjoyed in the performing arts, he has achieved prominence as a writer, director, producer, and social advocate. Astin is the founder and President of Lava Entertainment, which focuses on adapting successful literary titles. He graduated, with honors, from UCLA in 1997, earning degrees in American Literature and Culture, and History.
