Details of Sean Astin on Alphas

Sean Astin, star of the worldwide hit trilogy, The Lord of the Rings, guest stars in a thrilling, two-episode arc of Syfy’s hit-series Alphas beginning this Monday, October 8 at 8PM ET/PT. With just three episodes left, the second season finale of Alphas airs Monday, October 22nd at 8PM ET/PT.
In his episodes, Sean Astin plays Mitchell, an Alpha with enhanced memory capabilities which allow him to store and replay other people’s memories and even draw individuals into them as if they’re actually happening. Believing he's a major asset to their nemesis, Stanton Parish (recurring guest-star John Pyper-Ferguson), Hicks (Warren Christie) and Kat (Erin Way) are tasked with kidnapping Mitchell but his bone crushing body guard won’t give up without a fight, leading to a deadly showdown.  Source
From my cable channel guide:
Hicks and Kat find themselves being chased when they hit the road to transport a valuable Parrish asset whose memory and gift for gab seem to know no limits.

Alpha's Warren Christie on Sean Astin

In a tvovermind.com interview, Warren Christie (Cameron Hicks) from SyFy's popular series "Alphas" talked about working with guest star Sean Astin, who will be in two episodes airing October 8 and 15.

On the subject of guest stars, Christie took questions about upcoming guest Sean Astin … "Sean Astin and I have a bunch of stuff that comes up this season. Our paths cross quite a bit, and, he's just a very, very cool guy. He's very funny, incredibly sweet and very fun to be around and work with. He likes coming to work and brings that energy with him. We were in a couple of remote locations and the last thing you want is to be stuck out there with some boring guy. But he was great and we had a lot of fun.

Alphas' Laura Mennell on Sean's upcoming appearance

Lord of the Rings vet Sean Astin’s two-episode arc doesn’t arrive until October, but according to Laura Mennell, it will be worth the wait. In fact, his Alpha is among her favorite newbies of the season. “Sean has a really cool character, one who has the ability to be able to retain the memories of other people,” Nina’s portrayer shares. “When I started reading that script, I was like, ‘Oh wow!’ And he’s such a phenomenal actor, so… it’ll be exciting to see what he does.”

Sean Astin & Summer Glau crash Alphas panel!

Sean Astin and Summer Glau ("Firefly") both made special unannounced appearances at the "Alphas" panel at San Diego Comic Con today.

Summer reprises her season one role as Skylar Adams, an Alpha who possesses a 200+ IQ and is an electronics mastermind, while Sean plays an Alpha named Mitchell with a bizarrely absorptive brain, allowing him to assume the memories of anyone close to him and then replay them like a tape recorder. According to comments made at the panel, Sean's character has absorbed the memories of the long-lived Stanton Parish, played by John Pyper-Ferguson.

Sean's episode, called "If Memory Serves," is currently scheduled to air October 8, 2012.

Trivia: John Pyper-Ferguson portrayed Sims in "Jeremiah," the antithesis to Sean's Mister Smith in the series.
