Synopsis for Cabin Fever: Patient Zero

“Marcus Bently [Ben Hollingsworth] is an alluring, suntanned, physically strapping young American man, who’s passion for sailing and diving inspired him to open a business leading undersea diving adventures with his best buddy, Dobs Towe [Brando Eaton?]. Marcus goes to the Dominican Republic because he falls in love with an heiress of a wealthy family, Catalina Arias, with whom he intends to marry – albeit with a slight case of cold feet. Catalina sets up a lavish bachelor party for Marcus and his friends aboard a luxury yacht, which ends up floating too close to an uncharted island. The island is a scientific research facility run by an inhumane Dr. Edwards, who is intent on finding a vaccine for a flesh-eating virus that could strip humanity literally down to the bones. Marcus and his friends must find a way to survive before the flesh eating disease consumes them all.”

Sean Astin to star in Cabin Fever prequel

Sean Astin will star, along with Brandon Eaton and Ben Hollingsworth, in a prequel to Eli Roth's 2002 horror film cult classic Cabin Fever. "Cabin Fever: Patient Zero" is about a bachelor party on a cruise ship that runs aground on a medical research island in the Caribbean, accidentally unleashing a deadly virus.* The passengers struggle to find a way to survive before their own demons and the flesh-eating disease consume them all. The film will be directed by Kaare Andrews and is due to start filming August 13 in the Dominican Republic.

Update: “With Sean, we wanted an actor with gravity who is also popular with the fanboy fan-base,” producer Evan Astrowsky said in a statement. “Coupling Sean with fresh faces like Ben and Brando gives ‘Cabin Fever’ the pedigree of cast we’ve always desired.”

Trivia: The original "Cabin Fever" and its sequel, "Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever," starred Ryder Strong, who was in Sean's only other horror film, "Borderland."

* The terms "virus" and "bacteria" are being used interchangeably in various articles online. It is not clear which it is supposed to be or if the producers know the difference! The real flesh-eating disease in the news is bacterial in origin.

First Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle trailer!

Entertainment Weekly had the first exclusive first look at Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trailer.
“They were created by accident,” the voice in the trailer tells us. “They were kept a secret. They were trained for battle. And now, when their city is under siege, the fate of humanity is in the hands of these four…turtles!” And it continues: “When evil threatens our universe, these four brothers are destined to save the world!” Then it takes a few moments to introduce each of the four green guys: Leonardo, “the leader”; Donatello, “the brains”; Raphael, “the muscle”; and Michelangelo, “the wild one.”

Clip from unaired pilot "American Men"

In 2006, Sean made a pilot for an ABC TV sitcom called "American Men" (originally called "The Guys"). The show was never picked up and the pilot never aired, but a clip has just surfaced. [Thanks to SeanAstinZone for the heads up!]

Sean Astin, Stephen Tobolowsky, Bumper Robinson, Robert Bagnell and David Anthony Higgins

A description of the show:
When you have your first kid, for a little while, you can still get away with trying to convince yourself that you're still that same fun-loving guy who you were pre-kid...hang out with all those buddies you used to hang out with, and do all those cool pre-kid things. But at a certain point, you have to realize that you are not that cool guy anymore: you are a dad. And the people you are actually hanging out with are not those cool guys you used to hang out with but are, in fact, the random assortment of other dads who just happen to have kids the same age as yours. That is your group. That is your posse. That is your reality. And if you are anything like Sean Wilson [Sean Astin], you become determined to make those people your friends and to make that group work. Brought together by their kids, The Guys is about the unlikely but life-altering friendship created amongst a disparate group of men who otherwise would never be spending time together. An executive producer for Malcolm in the Middle and a writer for The Andy Dick Show examine the private lives of new fathers and prove they can do so much more than change a diaper. It's about the balance between their desire to be an important part of their kids' development and rediscovering the simple joys of outside interests.

Interesting side note: The pilot was directed by Rob Schiller, who directed "And They're Off," the horse racing comedy starring Sean, recently released on DVD!

Praise for Sean Astin in "Demoted" review

I found the notion that Astin’s character Mike, despite being a successful sales associate with a major firm, would still live with his parents quite funny, especially since his mother ultimately takes it upon herself to entertain the strippers Mike brings home each night. More of that certainly would have been nice. In fact, more Sean Astin in general would have benefited the film greatly.

Astin proves to be the most consistently funny performer throughout.

Mike on the other hand, undergoes a complete lifestyle transformation by the end of the picture, which makes him a more logical focal point. Moreover, Astin delivers a more thoroughly solid comic performance than any other Demoted cast member, so much so that he steals virtually every scene he appears in. For even when he isn’t talking, Astin finds some sort of bizarre comic business to do that ultimately draws focus from the trite action and dialogue going on around him anyway.

Sean Astin is wonderful in the picture and here’s hoping that he gets a chance to play the lead in a superior comedy soon.
